Glove Presents Gardening Voucher To West Vale Academy

We are all keen to see growth within our schools, academies, and trusts, so it’s even more pleasing to see one Trust take ‘growth’ literally, after winning a £250 garden voucher!

Glove Consulting’s managing director, John Brennan, had the pleasure of presenting the voucher to pupils and staff at West Vale Academy in Halifax, West Yorkshire, recently, which was won by the school’s Trust, Great Heights Academy Trust at a conference in 2022.

Laura Horsfall, the principal at West Vale, detailed the school’s plans to use the £250 voucher to improve its gardens and begin planting a ‘living wall’ that will surround the school’s main playground perimeter.

“We would like to extend the benefits of our current garden area to the everyday experience of all our children,” explained Miss Horsfall.

“Living walls help children to feel calm and secure and are educationally beneficial. They help children understand biodiversity and are also good for the environment.”

Work has also continued at West Vale on Mrs Warner’s Secret Garden, dedicated to the memory of the former teacher, which will include a working area for the pupils, an ornamental garden with roses, and a sensory garden that features a range of aromatic herbs and summer flowers to help attract a variety of insects, butterflies, and bees, as well as bird boxes and bug hotels.

Amanda Barrett OBE, CEO of Great Heights Academy Trust, told John that the Trust was entering an ‘exciting growth period’, and there are three more schools due to join, making it the ideal time to make connections with new partners such as Glove Consulting - ‘a leader in effective Trust development’ - about making positive steps forward.

Members of West Vale Academy’s school council, with representatives from years 2 to 6, had the opportunity to ask John about Glove and were enthused about the school’s plans on how to best use the voucher with a new living wall.

Head boy Sam said, “I’m proud to go to West Vale Academy, the living walls will make our good school even better.”
